Sensei Timothy "TIGER" Davidsmeyer
Introducing the Chief Instructor for
Tiger's Tatsu Te Ryu Academy.
Sensei Timothy "Tiger" Davidsmeyer
Mr. Davidsmeyer started his training in the Martial Arts in 1990. His first system was the art of Tae Kwon Do with instructors in a Battle Creek after school program. He trained for 2 years before moving to Pullman. Unfortunately there were not any Tae Kwon Do or other martial art schools close enough to the area, so he was forced to take a sabbatical.
It was in 1997 when he started his training in the Tatsu Te Ryu Karate-Do system under the direct instruction of its founder Shidoshi Geoffrey Spohn.
In the years to follow he continued to balance his training, along with a part time job, church activities and school work. During this time his fierce determination, and tenacity towards training earned him the fighting name “Tiger”.
In February 2003, he tested before the Tatsu Te Ryu Black Belt Reviewing Board, and after completing his examination, became one of the first people to have earned the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt.
Earning his Black Belt only fueled Sensei Davidsmeyers desire to continue learning Tatsu Te Ryu Karate-Do. So he spent the next couple years refining, and polishing his martial skills, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. In 2005, Shidoshi Spohn invited him to test for his 2nd Degree Black Belt, which he successfully achieved.
After his 2nd Degree promotion, he found that he had no desire to stop training, and therefore began the completion of his new requirements and in summer 2008, he tested for and was granted the rank of Sandan (3rd) Degree Black Belt. For the past 2 years Sensei Davidsmeyer has continued his training, and is working towards his 4th degree.
In October of 2009 he approached Shidoshi Spohn and asked for authorization to open a Tatsu Te Ryu Karate-Do school in the Grand Rapids area. Shidoshi said he was open to the idea, and to the spreading of the system. Sensei Davidsmeyer was given extensive teaching preparation, and in spring 2010, Shidoshi conferred upon him the honor and title of Certified Instructor, and thus was born Tiger’s Tatsu Te Ryu Academy.
